Mike was a wonderfully eccentric  kid and fearless. We spent time together with Tom Gavagan on one of Mr. Cohen's Canadian canoe trips. Funny and intelligent, he went out on the Johnson Motors pier at north beach with a classmate (forgot who) during a storm to take photos of the raging waves. He was an avid photographer. It became too dangerous so they ran from post to post in between waves trying to get back when one washed him over. It was reported he was laughing as he tried to swim back to the pier with one wave after the other washing over him until one time he didn't surface. Sadly they found him a month later washed up in Michigan. This is what I recall anyway. There was a plague to his remembrance mounted on a pavilion there for many years but it was removed. Maybe someone else can fill in anything I have wrong.
